
Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific (SISWP) is one of
four federations in the world's largest classified service organization
for business and professional women. Soroptimist International has more
than 100,000 members in 3,000 clubs in over 120 countries and territories.
The Federation of the South West Pacific includes clubs in 12 countries
and has over 3,500 members. Soroptimists are executive women of all ages,
cultures and ethnic groups who work through a Programme of Service to
make a difference for women throughout the world.

Soroptimist International is a launch
partner for this vital UNIFEM global internet based advocacy campaign
which will run until 25 November 2008, the internationally recognised
day to eliminate violence against women.

Soroptimist International South West Pacific Conference of Clubs
Members from through out the federation enjoyed a conference
which asked us to confront the issues facing women today; Domestic Violence,
Trafficking of women and children, better health care and education for
women. New Federation President Leigh Elwood-Brown looks forward to leading
the federation members in raising their voices and making Soroptimists
- "A Global Voice" for women.
Best Practice Awards
To recogonise the valuable work performed by Soroptimists
clubs in the Federation. The Federation presents "Best Practice Awards"
to club projects which address the programme focus goals and criteria.

Hands Across the Borders Project
Great news! The Hands Across the Borders project will continue as the
Federation Project for the next 2 years. Federation Project Liaison Helen
Hutchins reports that this extension will enable the project to complete
Phase 2 and 3 - establishment of clinics and educational programs at the
school and hospital, delivery of equipment and supplies, and Phase 4 -
to up-skill the women and empower professionals (teachers, doctors and
nurses) to deliver services of a higher standard.
In June 2008, Soroptimist from the Federation went to Sampolvoun to assist
Helen and her team with the project, cleaning, painting, building and
run workshops with the children from the village. To send donations to
