What a wonderful start to International Women's Day when we welcomed two new members into our Club - Tina Gilbert and Fiona McMullen.

Tina is a trained nurse and midwife and is now semi-retired, although still very heavily involved in health care as she cares for her father who is terminally ill. Always learning, she is a newly qualified Reiki practioner, a keen traveller and a bit of a risk taker. Tina is interested in helping other people to find and develop their strengths, to empower and encourage them to make changes to better their lives.

Fiona has qualification in psychology, social work, adult education and management and currently coordinates the education of professionals throughout Western Australia in areas related to sexual violence. She is passionate about the prevention of violence, particularly sexual violence, in our communities. Fiona has three children - one at university and two still at school - who keep her busy with their very active lives.

How fabulous it was to us to have two new members join our club in February

Anne-Marie is currently employed by Canon Australia in a consultancy role-helping customers set up Managed Document Services. She has contributed to the IT Industry both in the UK and Australia for over 17 years. Anne Marie gained a Degree and Post Graduate qualification in Law from the University of Edinburgh and took a graduate role with Compaq Computer over a legal traineeship. She became a senior manager for Hewlett Packard, managing teams across the UK.

She migrated to Perth in July 2006 and was in Managerial roles within Hewlett Packard for the first 5 years before moving to her current position at Canon Australia.

Passionate about people, travel and making her time count ... her focus for 2014 includes more community involvement and hopes her membership of Soroptimist International South Perth sets it off to a flying start! A career in IT has enabled her to travel to over 10 countries, have flexibility to raise a son who is now 20 years old and afford a fantastic lifestyle

Nicky is married to Brian and they have two daughters. She arrived in Australia 11 years ago from the north of England. She is a Florist and owns and runs a business “Sweet Floral” in Wembley, and her passion at work is Weddings. She loves learning new things, is always going on new courses, walking, travelling and going to the movies. She is looking forward to joining the Soroptimists and meeting new people.

How blessed we all felt at our December meeting when Club President Ann Reed took the time to hand make these beautiful christmas gifts for each club member. Given we are a club of 35 members - that is a lot of work.   Ann showed to us that she has a very creative streak in her (on pulling the bow out popped chocolate treats!).

Our previous Club President Jane Jones took the lead at our meeting to acknowledge the amazing job Ann has done in her first year as Club President. She has helped us achieve much this year and we thank her for her leadership. We look forward to 2014 where we can all work together to advance the status of women in our local, national and international communities.

Without doubt one to the most important roles in the club is that of Treasurer. We wish to acknowledge the great work of our recent past Treasurer Wendy Wiley, who has worked tirelessly to ensure the club finances are "well balanced" . Wendy provides members with a finance report each month and takes the time to ensure we all understand our responsibilites to fund raise, our choices in terms of activities to commit to and our obligations to remain fiscally responsible.

Wendy has helped us is to be a club that can do alot to advance our pledge of service and advancement of the status of women. Thank you Wendy!

...But if that is not enough, Wendy has committed to mentoring our new Treasurer Pam Richards. We welcome Pam to the role of Honarary Treasurer. We are very glad that Pam has accounting qualifications and years of experience in financial management - so we are in safe hands!

On Tuesday the 10th December members of our club donated Christmas Hamper's to Starick Services  ( a not-for-profit community service who provide crisis accommodation for women and children ).The hampers will go to women and children who are have been affected by family and domestic violence, and who may be in crisis accommodation over Christmas.

We saw the true spirit of Sorpotimists at work ' women at their best, helping others to be their best'

The CEO of Starick Leanne Barron thanked us for this immediate support and for the ongoing support our club provides throughout the year.
