The Commission on the Status of Women will be held in New York from 12 to 23 March 2018.
Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific is pleased to announce that there will be two (2) scholarships available for a Soroptimist member of the South West Pacific to attend CSW 62.
Commission on the Status of Women (CSW): A global policy-making body, CSW is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) dedicated exclusively to the promotion of gender equity and the advancement of women. Every year, representatives of the member states gather at the United Nations headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equity, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide.
Soroptimist International Federations will be involved actively in presentations and advocacy to promote our mission and goals at this international meeting.
The scholarship winners will have a great opportunity to work with senior Soroptimists, to meet with CSW 62 representatives from member States, UN entities and NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC from all regions of the world, to attend the session which will include high-level round table, interactive dialogues and panels and parallel events.
This year there are two themes:
• Primary theme: Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.
• Review theme: : Participation in and access of women to the media, and information and communications technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women (agreed conclusions of the forty-seventh session)
Registration will probably take place from mid-November until January but this is still to be confirmed.
