For those who want to make the most out of their visit to Yogyakarta, fly in early and book the Yogyakarta City Highlight Tour. Wear something easy, breezy and picture ready, as we will take you on an adventure.
The day starts early as we leave for Prambanan Temple. This temple is 45 minutes from the hotel, and it is the largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva in Indonesia. The compounds consist of 240 temples with reliefs that tell the story of Ramayana. It is named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and you will be amazed at the story behind the temple.

After that, if you’re still wondering if there are more iconic temples in Yogyakarta, the tour continues to Borobudur Temple. An hour’s ride from Prambanan, Borobudur is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the world. Not only was it named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has also been named Memory of the World by UNESCO. If the structure hasn’t impressed you yet, this site consists of three tiers, with 72 openwork stupa containing the statue of Buddha, across a 2,500 sqm area.

Back in the city, you can explore the fascinating Javanese culture, the amazing craftsmanship, and the delicious delicacies of Yogyakarta. Right in the middle of the city is the Sultan’s Palace, or also known as Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. This is the place to learn the history of Yogyakarta and view the royal artifacts. At certain times, you can see arts and cultural performances, such as gamelan, Javanese dance, shadow puppets and see the royal staff on duty.

Kotagede can be translated as a “big city” or a “great city”. Even though it is now a relatively small town, it was once the capital of Mataram. Located 30 minutes from the hotel, this charming place is the center of arts and culture. It is famous for its silverwork industry. So, make sure you hold on to your wallets before you end up buying all of the precious jewelry. The city can be explored by taking a stroll by andong, or the horse-drawn cart. You will feel like a princess in the midst of stately relics of Kotagede’s historic past.

After you’re done exploring Kotagede, we’ll take you to a Batik Painting class. You’ll get to appreciate the beauty of Batik after seeing the intricate process of making one. Get familiar with the tjanting and hot wax, if you decide you want a personalized Batik. Or learn how to work the copper stamp or a cap. This will surely be a souvenir that tells a million stories back home.

An experience like no other, you will never witness the sunrise as magical as the ones you saw from Borobudur. This is especially worth it if you want to capture beautiful lights shining through the relics of Borobudur. Note that this tour requires you to leave early before dusk. After breakfast, you can continue to visit Mendut Temple. This temple can be explored by walking from Borobudur, passing Pawon Temple on the way. It is said that praying in Mendut Temple will help to fulfill wishes. Before you know it, you’ll be back at the hotel before breakfast time is over.
