Sustainable Development Goals & SISWP role at the Forefront: My Dialogue with UN agencies & CSO partners. Article by SISWP President 2018-2020, Anusha Santhirasthipam.
On 5 June 2018 I was privileged to be invited to participate in a UN supported Policy Dialogue featuring UN Sustainable Development Goals and the role of CSOs (Civil Society Organisations) held in Kuala Lumpur.
I had good discussions with Mr Stefan Priesner, United Nations Resident Coordinator, who was the Guest of Honour for the event.
We discussed the effectiveness of SISWP programme action and advocacy strategies, our dynamic impact and documented track record as an ECOSOC Special Status Organisation serving 13 member countries in Asia and the Pacific area.
It was also a great learning experience for me to listen to leading experts in law reform, socio-economic change, financial governance and by those who successfully manage organisations that carry out social transformation and community empowerment work.
So much interest and curiosity about Soroptimist International from other social purpose organisations and social enterprises. Many were seeking project partnerships for education and empowerment of women and children, especially for marginalised and disadvantaged communities.
The event was organised by the Malaysian Civil Society Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals and the Centre of Public Policy Studies (CPPS) Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI).
